Before the arrival of Europeans, the territory inhabited by various Native American nations. The first of the Europeans who settled in present-day Arkansas was the French, after English and German. Over the years, the state's territory was a sphere of conflict of interests in Spain and France. In 1803, the territory of the State of Louisiana as part of a large area was purchased by the United States from France. June 15, 1836, Arkansas has officially become a US state.
With south Arkansas borders with Louisiana, from the west by the states of Texas and Oklahoma, to the east the state borders with Tennessee and Mississippi from the north is Missouri. The eastern part of the state occupies the lowlands of the Mississippi River, the northern part is occupied by mountains Ouachita and Ozark hilly plateau. The climate is subtropical in the state, moderately humid. Winters are relatively mild with an abundance of snow.
